Almost 1 year!

It’s been a really great year so far! Next weekend will be our anniversary! Hard to believe. It’s been a busy year for both of us. We both have travelled so much for work. We sometimes joke that it’s our secret to a happy marriage. My favorite part about this year has been…NOT HAVING TO PLAN A WEDDING! We had fun, but it was nice to not have that added stress this year. We’ve had a lot of fun making our apartment our home. We finally got matching curtains and pillows for the couch last week. Big steps for us. HUGE.

Sad we haven’t been as diligent on here to record our travel et al, but looking forward to toasting to our 1st anniversary next week!

..ago!! We did it! And we are terrible bloggers!! Wedding was awesome. Will write a full report and post some photos soon. I’m out of town again for work, but hopefully Thanksgiving will allow us some time to chill and catch up.

So far so good. We’re in our new apartment and still sifting through some boxes, but we love it.

Dress - Final (I hope) fitting this Friday. I got some awesome boots and I hope the heel isn’t too high for the hem.

Honeymoon – Flights, hotels booked. Still need to get rental car. Here we come San Francisco!

Planning is coming along nicely – finally got the Catering hammered out. It’ll be BBQ, but Veggie Burgers will be available as an option if wanted.

…and life is going well. Starting to get gifts, which is nice, especially when you receive them from folks you didn’t expect anything from!! People are so nice!!

Speaking of nice people, I can’t get enough of the King Arthur Flour blog!!
And I made Strawberry Ice Cream last night – it’s a real struggle not to finish it off today… sooo good!

Inching Toward Two Months…

On Sunday we’ll be at the 2 month away mark. Madness. These past few weeks have been pretty productive. Here’s some updates:

Invitations: Getting printed. Mom and Sharon are working on the address labels. They are ridiculous, but I love them so much. The invitations that is…..

Suit/tux: We’re heading to Men’s Warehouse this weekend to duke it out. I want John in a suit, but renting a tux that looks like a suit might be the route we take. I just don’t want him to look like a penguin. Okay I don’t want a bowtie. And its MY wedding right?? Or whatever he wants. =)

Dress: Oh man! I am sooo excited. Kate came with me the other day for my mock up fitting. She pinned me in very tight, but assures me the real fabric will breathe and thus so can I. Maybe I’ll cut back on my nachos intake for awhile, just in case. It’s going to rock is all I can say, as by law/tradition/fear of John seeing it I can’t post pictures yet.

Registry: John got out of work early on Saturday and we hit up Macy’s finally. There is something magical about going to the original Macy’s on 34th Street in NEW YORK CITY to register!! We didn’t register our dishes there though. Thank God. My head would have exploded with all the patterns.

Rings: Thanks to magic of being a USAA member, we used their online jewelry vendor. (Oh PS, we got John’s ring size figured out when we were at Macy’s. That’s also where I figured out my ring size some 2 years ago. I think that’s cute.) Anywho, so looking forward to those showing up.

Reception Playlist: Started another shared Google Doc to generate ideas. NO CHICKEN DANCE.

Band: We are having The Moonlighters play. We thought about it and it was really important to us to have them there. So if it means chicken nuggets and trail mix for food…so be it.

Honeymoon: Booked our flights to San Francisco. How we’ll spend the days in between, to be determined. Some city adventures, some wineries, some beaches. Who knows, but now we can at least get there. Sleep in a VW van?? Flowers in our hair?

3 Months To Go!

Holy cow! I can’t believe its already summer!! What’s happened since March?? First of all, we’ve changed our mind about a zillion times on how we want the day to go. I think we’re almost there, but budgeting and coordinating are really nutso. There should be people who do this thing for a living! (Groan.)

List o’ updates:

Wedding Dress: I met again with my wonderful seamstress Marie yesterday. The only thing really usable from Mom’s dress is the lace. So she found a really beautiful off-white fabric as the base and will drape the lace over the top and then swoop off to the side asymmetrically on the skirt part. I go for a ‘mock up’ fitting in July. I’m very excited.

Bridesmaids Dresses: Rachel was in town a few months ago and I tricked everyone into going to David’s Bridal. They picked super cute (and comfortable!) dresses all in the shade of Cornflower. Terrific.

Churchy stuff: John and I went to our Pre-Cana classes in April. They were a lot of fun and really nice to have a day to just focus on each other and what life past the lace and the cakes will be like. We’re also working on the whole dispensation thing as I’m Catholic and John is not. So much paperwork!

Photographer: We found a wonderful NYU photography student to do the shooting. We met with him last month and checked out the church and the reception place. Contract has been sent off! So he’s ours!

Reception site: After much back and forth, we decided to get a larger tent for the back area of the Old Stone House. It was the best way to the band play, but still have everyone have a seat and be able to mill around. As we’ll probably be doing more heavy apps than a formal sit down dinner, there will be some tables, but mostly everyone can wander about and sit if they’d like. So no seating assignments!! Let the fights begin!

Catering: Still not done. =(

Cake: Booked. Its gonna rock.

Registry: Macy’s, Crate and Barrel, Pflasgrapf (sp?)

Honeymoon: We’re now looking at Napa Valley / San Francisco. Still need to make all the arrangements.

Save the date emails: Went out

Wedding invitations draft: Done and sent out to a printer for a trial. Aka John and I designed them. And they will mortify every invitation designer. We love them!

Knot Website: Update and finally got the guest list under control. Ugh.

Okay! I think that’s the latest. John’s in California right now. Maybe I”ll have him add a thought or too. Or update the actual List spreadsheet as I seemed to have not matched all the colors, etc.

There is a Holiday Inn Express within short walking distance of both the wedding and the reception – details to follow, but the rooms will be available for 10% off the best available rate, so it’ll be a bargain x 2, with internet in the rooms, free breakfast, etc!

We’re just about to finish hammering out 80% of the plans. Just a heads-up – our plans had to be scaled back to a cocktail reception with a dinner afterward for the party plus some out-of-towners. But it ends up saving us perhaps as much as 3000 dollars, to be truthful, so here’s hoping for the best!

We set aside the cake, today! $410.00 bucks for a cake (actually two of them) that serves almost 160 people, so we should be safe! ‘Twill be strawberry shortcake, so Jeff will have to limit himself to the Groom’s cake, or we might get a small cake specifically for people with strawberry and dairy allergies, who knows. We’re below budget on the cake, so that’s a really good sign of what’s to come!

Oh, and it is! To Come! And Soon!

Well, not so soon as I thought! We’re on the verge, however!

I think we’re sticking with drinks and heavy apps for the reception. Sorry for the tease.

Valentine’s Day

For today’s event we worked out at the YMCA, saw a musical improv show, and ate delicious Chinese Food in Chelsea. Oh! And we registered at Crate and Barrel. We’re still not done obviously, but we wanted to get the ball rolling. We may hit up Macy’s and Target soon.

Just as long overdue update, we’re still trying to work out the logistics of the reception venue. We’ve booked the Old Stone House and are trying to get a tent for the patio outside. Stay tuned.

Also, we registered for Pre-Cana classes in April!

Feeling a bit overwhelmed. Trying to make the numbers work. Trying to decide on colors and all that as well. I know this stuff isn’t easy and that’s why people pay wedding planners. But we’re theatre and production people darnit! We can handle it! Sigh. I’ll be happy when things are all in place and then all we do is just wait.

I’m currently sitting in the Hong Kong airport waiting to board again for Singapore. Oh the places I go with this job. Anyway, I’ll be back next Tuesday and John and I will jump back into wedding planning.
